Account settings linked to a Blueprint typically stay in sync with that Blueprint. However, when manual account settings are adjusted in the Manage section of Backpack, those fields become locked. A locked field means that the linked Blueprint is no longer in sync, preventing the Blueprint from overwriting the changes for that account. This feature gives users the flexibility to either manage accounts entirely from Blueprints or customize account changes as needed.
In This Article:
Fields automatically lock when changes are made in Manage, Bulk Manage, and while using Advanced Download. A field is considered locked when it displays a red lock icon.
Gray icons indicate unlocked fields that are still syncing with the linked Blueprint. To manually lock a field, click the gray lock icon next to the element you want to unlock. This action turns the lock icon red. Remember to click Save to confirm the changes.
There are two ways to unlock elements of your account in bulk:
In Manage, select the account(s) you'd like to unlock fields for and click Bulk Manage. From here, you can apply your chosen filters and then select Clearing Locks and Re-enabling Blueprint Automation.
Navigate to the Notifications section and click Anomalies to access all locked fields at the campaign, ad group, and keyword levels. Choose the specific elements you want to unlock and click Unlock Fields.
Within a single account, select the locked element you want to unlock. Click the red lock icon next to the field to unlock it and then click Save.
Locked fields only impact the relationship to a Blueprint. A reverse sync pulls in changes that have been made at the partner into Backpack—the changes will occur even if the field is locked.
While Reverse Sync can update unlocked fields, it won't automatically lock them. If you want to preserve those changes, you'll need to manually lock the fields. Failing to do so might result in your Blueprint overwriting those changes during the next republish.
You can prevent specific fields in a Blueprint from updating after the initial launch. This is useful when you intend to make partner-level changes and want to avoid constant Blueprint overrides during republishes. When you lock the fields in a Blueprint, the same fields will be locked in Manage.
For instance, if you enable the "Bidding Strategy" toggle in Lockable Fields, the initial launch will include the configured bidding strategy from the Blueprint. However, any subsequent changes to the bidding strategy won't be applied during future Blueprint republishes.
Here's how to configure lockable fields in Blueprints:
Go to Blueprints in the top menu.
Choose a Blueprint from the list on the left.
Expand open the Settings & Configuration section, and select Lockable Fields.
Toggle on the field(s) you want to unlink from the Blueprint.
Click Save Changes.
