Switch It Up!

Goal

The skier steps the inside ski into the new direction and then steps the outside ski parallel. Step frequency increases as radius of turn decreases and/or speed increases.

Helps when a skier has trouble balancing on one ski, or keeping their body facing the line of momenturm through a turn, or managing the movement pattern when quick-stepping from ski to ski during a turn.

Details

Using a step turn, on a flat trail or gentle decline, take a few steps to the left and then switch to take a few steps to the right. Switch the stepping direction on an odd number of strides (e.g every 3-5-7 strides).

Varations: vary the size of the step taken to point the inside ski in a new direction. Make both large and small circles. Start with a large circle and make it smaller and smaller. Try a figure 8.
