Track Balance

Goal

Ankle, knee, hip and torso align to balance over a flat ski. The ski is flat when it contacts the snow. Poling starts with the elbows flexed and hands in front of the torso, shoulder width apart. Both arms and legs contribute to propulsion in each cycle.

Helps when a skier has trouble balancing on one ski. Or skier is using legs, but not core or upper body to contribute to propulsion.

Details

Skiers put their skis in the classic track and try to balance on one ski while double poling twice on that side. Repeat on the other side.

Progression: On a skate trail, skier double poles twice while balance over one gliding ski.  Increase the number of double poles to three or four.  To bring this back to one skate, start double poling on one ski then use a skate push to move onto the next ski.
