Cutting the Snow
Goal
The ski is flat when it contacts the snow. Leg force is generated by flexing all joints, followed by a quick extension that projects the COM forward and across onto the other ski.
Helps when the ski has no grip on the snow. The skier tries to push ski away from body rather than moving COM away from ski.
Details
Visualize the ski edges as a pair of scissors cutting into the snow. Have skiers move in a free manner, exploring the limits of equipment and movement.
Variation: on fresh snow, after skiing a set distance, turn around and look at your tracks - you will see if you are on a flat or edged ski.
