C-turns

Goal

The skier's COM moves to the inside of the turn (angulation) flattening the inside ski, enabling the ski to pivot parallel to the outside ski and to increase the edge angle of the outside ski to grip the snow.

Helps when a skier needs to better manage speed and turn shape.

Details

Use 2 poles. Place one pole down flat on the slope to represent the fall line. Place a second pole or other marker further down the slope. Start your transitional wedge turn above the first pole. Demonstrate matching the inside ski to the outside ski after the first pole; once skis are matched, the skier continues a skidded turn on parallel edges, finishing the turn above the second pole or marker.
