Season Summary
This year was exciting for the varsity girls’ volleyball coaches due to the depth of talent and versatility of our players. The beginning of the season included a lot of positional work, determining the best line-up for the team. This proved difficult, in the best way, because of how well-rounded the roster was this season.
From the very beginning of the season, the girls fought off fierce competition, beginning the season with an early loss to rival SFS. Throughout the following weeks, the team grew in skill and confidence, but it wasn’t until the ACSC tournament trip that the girls fully realized their grit.
During the tournament, the Lady Guardians played a total of 11 games across four days, pushing themselves to new levels of stamina. They also faced many different styles of play among the various teams from all over Asia, developing the ability to adjust and react quickly. Ultimately, YISS finished 3rd at ACSC, with junior Faith Kim taking home the best server award.
Directly after the ACSC tournament, the team jumped into the last week of KAIAC conference play, facing two top teams. Poetically, the Guardians finished on top of SFS in the last game of the season, putting themselves into 3rd place for the Blue Division with a 6-4 record.
At the KAIAC Cup tournament, the Guardians again faced their rivals in the fight for 3rd place. The game lasted five sets and came down to a grueling back-and-forth, finishing at 18-16 with the Guardians on top, sealing the girls' 3rd place finish. At the tournament, senior Alex Sohn received the best server award, based on statistics throughout the tournament, and senior Jisoo Kim earned the best setter award, voted on by the coaches. The team also received the sportsmanship award for the tournament.
The final games of the season were perfect bookends to the first, proving the immense growth achieved by the whole team throughout the course of the season.
