Season Summary
YISS Track & Field Boys’ Team was led this year by Senior Captain Souhoon Lee.
The season began with a 2nd place team finish at HHS with our Preseason Meet on March 2nd. Podium finishes at the meet included 100m (Souhoon Lee), 400m (Joshua Ko), 800m (Joshua Ko), 1600m (Andy Lee), 3200m (Andy Lee), 4x400m (Nadav, Leon, Henry, Joshua), 4x800m (Andy, Nadav, Jeremiah, Ian), and Triple Jump (Leon Kawai).
The second HHS meet on March 9 earned the boys 5th place, highlighted by a 2nd place podium in the 4x800m.
March 20th the guys had their first ever mid-week meet, with the team rising to earn 3rd place. Podium finishes included the 400m (Leon Kawai), 3200m (Jeremiah Ro), 4x100m (Souhoon, Henry, Jason, Jayden), 4x400m (Carsten, Nadav, Leon, Joshua), and 4x800m (Zion, Jeremiah, Dylan, Ian).
For the 4th meet on April 6th, the Guardians earned 5th place behind standout podium performances in the 4x400m relay (Carsten, Zion, Jeremiah, Ian) and the High Jump (Keado Frederick).
Next, the team set off to Manila for the ACSC Meet hosted by Faith Academy and located at Brent International School. The Boys started things off by assisting with feeding programs to those in need around Manila as part of the ACSC service project. For Friday afternoon’s events, Leon Kawai and Henry Robinson earned 2nd and 3rd place in the Triple Jump. Joshua Ko earned 3rd place in the 800m (2:13.3h), and Keado Frederick broke the school record in the Javelin (32.70m). Ian Kong ran 18:39.7h to break the school record in the 5000m and earn 3rd place.
Saturday was a busy and successful day for the Guardian boys. Jinyoung Chung broke the school record in the 1.5kg Discus with a throw of 24.42m. The Boys 4x100m team earned a 3rd place podium. Keado Frederick earned 3rd place in the Shot Put. The day finished with a 3rd place finish (3:56.4h) in the 4x400m relay (Leon, Carsten, Nadav, Joshua). After two long days of impressive performances, the Boys finished with 104 points which earned them 4th place in the ACSC Meet team score. Leon Kawai earned All-ACSC honors for scoring a team high 18.5 points for the Meet.
Saturday, April 20th was scheduled to be a tune-up meet. Rainy weather and high pollution cut the Meet short, but not before some PR’s were achieved. Jason Kim broke the school record in the 100m (11.68), and the 4x800m relay team earned 2nd place (9:51.14).
The KAIAC Championships started with a 3 hour delay due to poor air quality. In the afternoon once the event started, the Boys team worked hard to earn a 4th place team finish after another close points battle (73.4 points). They concluded the season with several personal bests and top finishes. Souhoon Lee became KAIAC Champion in the 300m Hurdles with a school record time of 45.36. The 4x100 Relay team (Souhoon, Jayden, Henry, Jason) also broke their own school record with a time of 47.23. Other podium finishes included Joshua Ko getting 3rd place in the 800m (2:16.36), Keado Frederick getting 3rd place in the Shot Put (10.82), the 4x400m team (Joshua, Leon, Nadav, Carsten) getting 3rd place (3:56.49), and the 4x800m team (Nadav, Ian, Joshua, Jeremiah) getting 2nd place and breaking the school record (9:10.97).
