Season Summary
The 2014 girls' tennis season was a season of new beginnings. Coach Fritz stepped down after three years of coaching, and Coach Vachon, new to YISS, stepped in her shoes. The team had six freshman and only one senior, making the learning curve steep for everyone. The season got off to a slow start with Eunice Kweon, who took the number one singles spot based on her excellent groundstrokes, struggling against her upperclassmen opponents, and Yejoo Kang, the number two singles player, out for the first three matches because of an injury from the summer. Despite the lack of experience, the team fought hard and carried on YISS's tradition of excellence, coming in 3rd place in the KAIAC Blue Division in both conference play and the end-of-season KAIAC tournament. The season highlights for the team were Andre Lee and Sunny Lee's victory over SFS in an epic tiebreaker at SFS, and Jenny Yoo's dominant performance over SFS at home. At the KAIAC tournament, Eunice Kweon and Jenny Yoo were named to the All-Conference team.
The 2014 season ended with Eunice Kweon, Yejoo Kang, Jenny Yoo, and Sarah Kim competing in the DODDS Pacific Far East Tennis Tournament in Okinawa, Japan. The girls competed hard and took home the Division 2 title for girls, and combined with the boys' performance, YISS took home the Division 2 overall title as well. Eunice finished 10th out of 32 entrants for Girls Singles, and Eunice and Jenny teamed up to finish 10th out of 32 entrants for Girls Doubles. Jenny and her partner, Andrew Yoo, finished 6th out of 32 entrants for Mixed Doubles, and Sarah and her partner, Michael Lee, finished 10th in the same category.
