Season Summary
The Cross Country Guardians ran their way to a record-setting season in 2023. Building upon the successes of last season, the returning runners set the tone of strong work ethic and personal commitment to excellence. On and off the course, their encouragement and positivity throughout the season garnered them both the Girls’ and Boys’ KAIAC Team Sportsmanship Awards.
The Boys’ team was led by Senior Captain Souhoon Lee along with returners Seungmin Kim (Sr.), Nadav Tal (Jr.), Joshua Ko (So.), and Jeremiah Ro (So.). A spark of energy was added to the team by newcomers Andy Lee (Jr.), Henry Robinson (So.), Balazs Pusztai (So.), Alex Chang (So.) Ian Kong (Fr.), Zion Ro (Fr.), Jason Kim (Fr.), Chang-il Im (Fr.), Justin Park (Fr.), and Isaac Shim (Fr.). The Guardian Boys showed incredible growth throughout the season and finished with a KAIAC conference record of 16-8, and overall record of 37-16.
At the KAIAC Championships, the team showed how much they’ve improved by attacking the course and upsetting SIS to earn 4th place. Several Guardians had outstanding individual performances this season. Ian Kong was recognized as the team MVP in his debut season. At the Asia Pacific Invitational in Guam, he earned All-Island honors for his 14th place finish. He also earned All-Conference for the KAIAC regular season and All-Tournament honors. Joshua Ko earned All-Conference and All-Tournament honors. Jeremiah Ro ran an excellent championship race to earn All-tournament honors.
