Season Summary
The Lady Guardians started out the season with a rough start losing a couple friendly games and trying to learn the game and system. Captain Christina Lim was the only senior and the team had a few juniors but mostly 10th and 9th grade players.
The turning point of the season was a close win versus rival TCIS which went to five sets. From that point on the girls played with more heart, commitment, and teamwork. Sarah Kim, the floor captain of the team, kept the team accountable to a high standard while leading the team in digs, aces, and kills.
Another key win for the Guardians was upsetting top ranked SAHS in four sets and later taking sets from DAHS and beating all the teams in their league at least once, which the Guardians had impressively done the year before.
The KAIAC tournament was held at YISS and the Guardians came into the tournament tied for fourth place. They beat TCIS again (third time in the season), lost to SAHS, but then went on to win a thrilling five set game versus SFS which came down to the last point with YISS fans cheering on the Guardians in the bleachers. The Guardians then went on to beat OSAN for the first time in the year but then lost to SAHS 1-3 while finishing third. Sarah Kim had a remarkable tournament and was voted hitter of the tournament.
In Far East the girls were ranked third behind Morrison and ISSH but went up against a tough EJ King team and lost in the 5th set. In the second game versus MC Perry, middle blocker Mari went down with an ankle injury and senior Christina Lim hurt her wrist but the Guardians continued to fight hard but came up short.
