Season Summary
YISS Varsity Cheerleading consisted of 15 students, ranging all high school grades. Around half of the team was new, bringing on the challenge of training, conditioning, memorizing, and performing safely and with the advanced skill level expected of a varsity team. The team had a few injuries throughout the season which brought about unexpected changes in positions. Although it was a challenge to "put the pieces together" in the best way, it brought strength and versatility to the team. On Saturday, February 10th, the girls participated in the 2018 KAIAC Cheer Competition which was held at SFS. Although the number of participating schools was down to 12, the competition was still fierce. The Guardians participated in the Level 1 competition, having great execution of their first run of the routine in the preliminary round and moving through to the finals. The challenges of injuries and fatigue followed them all the way to the end of the season, but they were able to secure the spot of 4th place overall in the Level 1 competition. During the competition, the girls also had one student, Jenny Kwon (10) awarded the All-KAIAC award for individual performance. All-tournament patches were also awarded to three outstanding athletes: Captain Yoona Lee (12), Co-captain Vanessa Shim (11), and Katie Carr (12). The varsity girls are very proud to have represented YISS at this year's competition and look forward to their next chance to compete.
