Season Summary
With only 2 returning players, the varsity girls' basketball team of 2016-17 was starting over in a lot of ways. With only 3 upperclassmen, many of the girls were learning the basics of the varsity game in the game itself. Despite these challenges, the Lady Guardians put together a strong season and improved dramatically throughout the season. Soo Lee and Andre Lee began to step up as leaders more and more as the season progressed.
During the regular season the girls finished 4th in KAIAC even though the team was young. The girls had a huge win during the season at Osan, always a tough road game. The girls also competed against a stacked SAHS team, a team that would eventually win the title.
At the ACSC tournament, the girls lost all of their pool play games, and it looked to be a discouraging end of the season. However, the girls fought back when it mattered. Winning the first round easily, the Ladies would face an ICS (Hong Kong) team that had beaten them handily in the pool play stage. Down 16 at the half, it looked to be a repeat. But the girls stepped up in the 2nd half, chipping away at the lead and eventually taking the lead and the win in the final minute. This win put them fighting for 3rd after a dismal pool play stage. In the end, they would take a very respectable 4th place.
