Season Summary
The 2024-25 YISS Guardians boys' varsity volleyball team had a historic season, finishing second in the KAIAC regular season with an 8-3 record and making their first KAIAC championship appearance since 2013. They peaked at the perfect time, playing their best volleyball in the final week of the season. Dominant wins over KIS and GSIS showcased their growth, and in the KAIAC final, they pushed heavily favored SFS to a thrilling five-set battle—the only time SFS was taken to a fifth set all year. Though they finished as runners-up in the tournament with a 2-1 record, their performance was unforgettable. The team also competed fiercely at ACSC, finishing fourth with a 4-5 record. This season was marked by resilience, hard work, and a level of play that set a new standard for YISS volleyball.
At the heart of this team were three outstanding seniors—Jason Kim, Ryan Hong, and Colin Chung—who sacrificed so much for the success of the program. Jason Kim, the team MVP, was a dominant force, earning All-Conference and All-Tournament honors for both KAIAC and ACSC. As captain, he led by example and was named the league’s Best Hitter in an incredibly talented field. Ryan Hong, also a captain, thrived under pressure, guiding the team with confidence and securing Best Setter honors in a year where the setter position was exceptionally strong. He, too, was added to the KAIAC all conference team. Colin Chung, the backbone of the team for three years, cemented his reputation as the best passer in the league, earning Best Passer awards at both ACSC and KAIAC. The impact of these three leaders will be impossible to replace, but their dedication and excellence have left a lasting legacy on the YISS volleyball program.
