Season Summary
This year the team was very young. Not only did the Guardians start a lot of underclassmen but many of players were young in soccer ability and development. Despite these difficulties the girls managed to have a highly successful season finishing 2nd in KAIAC. The girls did a great job of staying teachable and working for each other. It was this mindset that led to a successful season. This was a very unselfish group of players who chose to be an example of what it means to be a true team.
A large reason for this great attitude, was leadership. Dora Zoeller, Soo Lee and Brigitte Lee, did a great job of serving the team as captains and proving that they would do whatever the team needed. The captains did a great job of promoting this behavior. It is common on sports teams for players to only hang out with a small group of people or people in their grade. This year's team did not have that issue. The captains and seniors made it a priority for everyone to get to know each other and treat each other as equals. The strength of the team, was the team.
It was this mentality that allowed for the tremendous finish at the KAIAC tournament. The girls pulled together in the final 5 minutes of the semi-finals against Osan, down 1-2, to score two consecutive goals and take the match 3-2. An assist and a goal were provided by all-tournament selection Soo Lee.
