Season Summary
The 2017-2018 tennis season was a strong year for the Varsity Girls’ Tennis team. Despite entering the year with a fairly new team, the players worked hard to build unity and communication on the court.
The team was lead by senior co-captains Andre Lee and Rachel Kim who brought their skill, consistency, and experience to the team. We also had returner Allison Park as the team’s frontrunner, finishing the season with a personal record of 8-2, and beating an undefeated opponent at KAIAC for 1st place in Girls’ Number 2 Singles bracket. The young doubles teams Erica Cho and Claire Park and Irene Gil and Ashley Koo were impressive in their positive attitudes, eagerness to learn, and flexibility while learning how to work with new partners. The girls also saw great improvement and support from alternate, Keyci Ouattara.
As the season progressed there were waves of wins followed by some losses, which prompted a team focus of mental toughness and developing an athletes’ mentality.
The girls finished the season 5-5 in conference play, placing 3rd in the conference as well as taking 3rd place at the KAIAC tournament and also received the honor of being awarded the sportsmanship award. It was a great season. Go Guardians!!
