YISS Track & Field Girls’ Team was led by Seniors Alice Lee, Faith Kim, Portia Koo, Chloe Kim, and Manager Irene Han. The season began with an exciting 2nd place finish at HHS Preseason Meet with many standout performances by returners and new athletes.
The second HHS meet on March 9 earned the girls 2nd place, and was highlighted by podiums in the 100m (Lia Gadot), 200m (Amiah Dodrill, Lia Gadot), 400m (Amiah Dodrill), 1600m (Kaiden Holst), 3200m (Lydia Ro, Sia Kim) 100m Hurdles (Rachel Kim) 4x800m (Lydia, Amiah, Kaiden, Sia), Shot Put (Grace Kim) High Jump (Lia Gadot, Chloe Smith) and Triple Jump (Lia Gadot).
On March 20th, the girls secured their first ever win for KAIAC league track and field. Podium finishes included 400m (Amiah Dodrill, Kaiden Holst), 800m (Lydia Ro, Amiah Dodrill), 1600m (Kaiden Holst), 3200m (Lydia Ro, Kaiden Holst), 100m Hurdles (Alice Lee), 4x400m (Lydia, Amiah, Kaiden, Olivia), 4x800m (Woobin, Adrianna, Sia, Olivia), Shot Put (Faith Kim), High Jump (Ellie Fertig), and Long Jump (Maya Leishear).
For the 4th competition on April 6th, the girls again earned 2nd place with 132.5 points. Lydia Ro dominated the day by setting school records in the 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. Other podium finishes included 100m (Lia Gadot), 400m (Amiah Dodrill), 4x100m (Alice, Rachel, Chloe, Lia), and Triple Jump (Lia Gadot).
The Guardians had another exciting opportunity to return to the ACSC Meet. This year, teams traveled to Manila for a meet hosted by Faith Academy and Brent International School. The girls started things off by participating in a rewarding service project by helping with feeding projects around Manila. As competition began, it became clear that Guardian athletes excel in tropical weather. After two days of competition, the Girls bested their opponents with a dominating team score of 228 points to claim YISS’s first ever ACSC Track & Field win.
Friday afternoon started off with Lia Gadot becoming ACSC champion in the Triple Jump (9.00m) and Amiah Dodrill setting a new school record in the 200m (29.54c). Alice Lee earned 2nd in the 400m Hurdles with a time of 1:22.14c. Lydia Ro became ACSC champion and ACSC record holder in the 800m (2:32.8h) as well as the 5000m (20:33). Friday finished with the SMR1600m Relay team (Woobin, Lia, Amiah, Kaiden) winning first place in a school record time of 4:59.7h.
Saturday’s competition saw more Guardian success. Lia Gadot won the High Jump with a height of 1.41m and earned 2nd place in the 100m (14.04). Lydia Ro won and broke the ACSC record in both the 3000m (11:38.9) and 1500m (5:20.1h). Amiah Dodrill became ACSC champion and record holder in the 400m (1:07.14c) with Kaiden Holst securing 3rd place (1:10.34c). Alice Lee bettered her own school record in the 100m Hurdles (18.84c). The Girls 4x100m relay team earned a 3rd place medal. Portia Koo got 2nd place in the Long Jump (4.05m). The meet concluded with an exciting 4x400m relay victory which broke the school record and ACSC record (4:41.6h).
All-ACSC honors were awarded to Lia Gadot, Amiah Dodrill, Kaiden Holst, and Lydia Ro. Additionally, Lydia Ro was awarded ACSC MVP honors for being the top points scorer (42.5 points).
The Meet on Saturday, April 20th was one more chance to earn some individual and team records. Unfortunately, rainy weather and high pollution prevented the Meet from finishing. In the events that did take place though, the girls put on some excellent PR and podium performances. The 4x800m team (Amiah, Kaiden, Lydia, Sia) even set the school record with a time of 11:18.5.
At the KAIAC Championship Meet on April 27th, there was a 3 hour delay due to poor air quality. But once the event began, the Girls Team had some great performances to end the season with a 2nd place team points finish of 145 points. This is the highest number of points that YISS has ever scored at the KAIAC Championship Meet. Lia Gadot earned silver medals in the 100m (13.93), Triple Jump (9.42m), and High Jump (1.40m). Lydia Ro earned silver in the 3200m (12:19.11), and improved upon her own school record in the 1600m (5:45.38) to earn bronze. Alice Lee earned silver in the 100m Hurdles (19.23). Amiah Dodrill earned silver in the 200m (29.87). Grace Kim threw a personal best (7.04m) in the Shot Put to earn bronze. In the relays, the 4x100m team (Alice, Rachel, Chloe, Lia) earned silver in a school record time of 55.80. In the 4x400m, the A team (Sia, Kaiden, Amiah, Lydia) won silver, and the B team (Faith, Woobin, Olivia, Adiranna) held off SFS for a thrilling 4th place finish. The 4x800 team (Sia, Adrianna, Olivia, Amiah) secured bronze with a time of 11:35.
