Season Summary
YISS Track & Field Boys’ Team was led this year by Seniors Harry Nyugen, Hank Young, and Captain Max Nothhelfer. The season began with a Preseason Meet on March 8th, where the team had some reduced numbers due to SAT schedule conflicts. Top finishers at the meet included Jason Kim’s 4th place in the 100m and 4th place in the 400m.
The second HHS meet on March 15 earned the boys 6th place, highlighted by top finishes in the 100m (Jason Kim- 3rd), 3200m (Zion Ro- 4th), Shot Put (Keado Frederick- 3rd), Triple Jump (Keado Frederick- 3rd), 4x100m (3rd- Keado, Andy, Jayden, Jason)
March 22nd was an optional Spring Break meet for athletes who were interested in bettering personal bests. After a 3 hour delay due to poor Air Quality, some of the boys still managed to post some good results. The team concluded the day with a delicious meal at Texas Roadhouse.
Next, 15 of the boys set off to Taichung, Taiwan for the ACSC Meet hosted by Morrison Academy Central. They began the tournament with a cultural event of attending a Taiwan pro baseball game on Thursday, and then Friday morning the service project was leading a Track Meet for special needs students. For Friday afternoon’s events, Jason Kim had an impressive performance in the 200m (24.58), with 4th place overall and 3rd place amongst ACSC boys. Keado Frederick became ACSC champion in the Javelin, bettering his previous school record with a throw of 41.76m.
Saturday was a busy and successful day for the Guardian boys. Koomin Chung broke the school record in the 1.5kg Discus with a throw of 25.69m, only to have his teammate Hayden Lee better the mark a few minutes later with a throw of 27.08m. In the 100m, Jason Kim qualified for the final and ended up running a time of 11.94. The 4x100m team (Max, Andy, Jayden, Jason) ran a speedy 47.63 to earn 4th place. Keado Frederick threw 11.57m to earn a bronze medal in the Shot Put. The 4x400m team (Dylan, Joshua, Keado, Jason) finished the day with a strong time of 4:01.77. The Boys finished the meet in 6th place amongst the Boys teams, and Combined with the Girls team, YISS placed 2nd with a score of 221 points.
