Season Summary
The boys varsity soccer team finished the season as KAIAC Champions, defeating top seeded SFS in the tournament finals. Completing the regular season with a record of 7-3-2, the team earned a third place finish during regular season play. With a strong class of seniors led by Captains Brian Kim and Jordan Hudson, the Guardians entered the tournament determined to finish the season with no regrets. YISS played hard in a tough first round match against OMHS. After a scoreless first half, Daniel Kim scored 2 goals and Jordan Hudson added a 3rd to give the Guardians a 3-0 victory. In the second round, the boys sought revenge against a strong Humphrey’s team they had previously lost to twice. Keeping their composure, the team ended the game with a 2-0 victory off goals from Tommaso Pespani. Job Thaitrong claimed his second clean sheet of the tournament as the Guardians headed to the finals. YISS came out strong to fight hard in the championship game, only to go down 1-0 off a PK in the final seconds of the first half. The boys never let up, though, and scored off a shot from defensive player Simon Sunwoo to tie the game. With 20 minutes remaining, Guardian goalie Job Thaitrong injured his knee, and forward Jordan Hudson stepped in to play keeper for the remainder of the match. With under 10 minutes to go, senior Shutaro Hasumi scored the game-winning goal, and a strong defense led by senior Brian Kim and Junior Meshal Alghamdi held tight to keep the Crusaders scoreless in the second half.
