Greetings Chorale and Ensemble families!
As promised, here are the details regarding our busy week after Thanksgiving.
First, just the repeated dates & times for the week- BOTH GROUPS!
Tuesday, Dec. 3rd 3:00-4:10pm After School in Auditorium
Thursday, Dec. 5th 5:55pm Call/ 6:00pm Perform Washington Square (Sears)
Sunday, Dec. 8th 12:55 Drop Off, 1:45 Pick Up Wheel to Walk (Airport Sheraton)
Now the details:
Tuesday, December 3rd - 3:00-4:10 After School Rehearsal for all!
We will be in the auditorium making critical final preparations for both our community performances. We have five different formations and props to deal with on top of three different locations and set ups. Thank you ahead of time for not entering the auditorium until the kids are dismissed, as it distracts them from this precious and very limited practice time. As usual, students will be available for pick up, 4:10, north gym exit, carpool style.
Thursday, December 5th - Washington Square Performance
1. Students need to arrive dressed in their concert black pants and Chorale t-shirts (coats to mom & dad). Ensemble members should be in school colors & dark pants.
2. We will meet BEHIND the risers at 5:55pm in Sears courtyard. Quite honestly, having kids gather & hang out any sooner than 5 minutes beforehand creates a big problem. Let’s not get in the way of shoppers and stores, as we want to be invited back. PLEASE DO NOT ALLOW ANY CHORALE & ENSEMBLE MEMBERS OR SIBLINGS ON THE RISERS AT ANY TIME, BEFORE OR AFTER THE PERFORMANCE. Another head’s up: Please have siblings on the floor safely BEHIND the director music stand. Thanks so much for your help on this.
3. Please be careful not to create an exclusive "holy huddle", ignoring shoppers & passers-by. This is a community outreach event~ a gentle reminder that you will be able to see Chorale again at the assembly and/or concert the following week. Let’s represent Christ with dignity & common courtesy. Let the light of Christ be available for our community to witness as our students share.
4. If your child should be late, your student may join the SIDE OF THE FRONT ROW, BETWEEN SONGS ONLY. Please help them calm themselves before scooting in. No worries!
5. We will perform 7 songs starting at 6:00 sharp, after a brief photo op. Then we will sing “Silent Night” and "O Come All Ye Faithful". Please join us singing this familiar carol & chorus. We will repeat the chorus "For He alone is Worthy” as well. In the past, it has been simply awesome to hear kids & parents together worshiping our Lord and King in this public setting. May we represent our Lord Jesus with excellence & may He be glorified thru it all!
6. Students will then be released to you from the risers. Enjoy the mall. Wear those shirts proudly. Smile a lot. Tip well. Again, we represent not only WHCS, but our most worthy Lord Jesus. We GET to do this!
Sunday, December 8th – Wheel to Walk Luncheon at the Airport Sheraton
1. Students need to be dropped off between 12:55-1:00pm at the front entrance of the hotel, 8235 NE Airport Way, Portland, OR 97220.
2. Students should arrive dressed in their concert black pants and Chorale t-shirts. Ensemble- school colors with dark pants are best.
3. We are unable to facilitate drivers & waiting parents in the hotel. Thankfully, there’s plenty of activity, shopping and food to be found moments away at Cascade Station.
4. Your child will be escorted in by an WHCS adult. We are scheduled to sing between 1:20-1:40. Due to the nature of this type of event, our actual performance time may vary by a few minutes.
5. Between 1:45-1:50ish, we should be loading up our students car-pool style, back again at the front entrance to the hotel. Thanks so much ahead of time for your grace and patience in this matter. This system worked fabulously two years ago.
6. I am delighted to have this service opportunity. I’m aware it comes with a price to family time and I really want you to know how much you are appreciated. Again, may we represent our Lord Jesus with excellence, and may He be glorified!
Opportunities to help:
1. Washington Square- Two parents needed to be my eagle eyes, to be on high alert, ready to swoop in if any of our kids need assistance, come off of the risers, etc.
2. WHCS Concert- Five dads needed to assist with tearing down risers.
3. 7/8th Ensemble Desserts - Finger desserts for Monday, Dec 16th. (plates of 25, perfect)
FYI, performance pictures will be available thanks Curtis Farmer (woohoo & thank you)!
Wow, that’s a lot of information for a holiday week. Please join me in prayer for our upcoming events. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
