RO-MD Transnational Educational Project - It is all about legends and a translegendary friendship
Christians celebrate the Nativity on December 25, a day popularly called Christmas. The faithful attend the morning Mass, and the children walk with the Star, announcing the Nativity of Jesus Christ.
Christmas is one of the greatest holidays of Christendom, but it is also an opportunity to reunite with our family, along with the decorated Christmas tree under which children, but also adults, are already enjoying the gifts of Santa Claus.
The birth of the Lord is the feast based on the biblical account given by the gospellers Matthew and Luke. More than 2,000 years ago, the Virgin Mary and her fiancé Joseph left Nazareth for Bethlehem to join the census commissioned by the Roman emperor Augustus.
Mary was pregnant after the miraculous appearance of the angel Gabriel, who announced to her that she would give birth to the Messiah. In Bethlehem, the two "lodged" in a cave, used as an animal shelter. There, Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, the Saviour of the world.
Three sages came from the East, guided by a star to the place where Christ was born, and brought gifts to the baby, acknowledging that a king had been born. Christians hear this gospel story today in churches, at the Liturgy, as well as carols announcing the birth of the Lord.
Christmas is also called the family holiday and also the most awaited period by the little ones. It is the occasion when all members of the family make gifts, they enjoy the moments spent together around the table, with the belief that by properly honoring the holidays they will have a richer year.
