RO-MD Transnational Educational Project - It is all about legends and a translegendary friendship
Conform legendei, odată, de mult, pe plaiurile bucovinene a trăit o fată extrem de frumoasă, dar foarte săracă. Fiind și orfană de ambii părinți, Sânziana suferea extrem de mult datorită marginalizării celorlalți, tânjind după dragostea și liniștea unei familii. Singurele momente de alinare erau clipele petrecute în casa sa sărăcăcioasă când se ruga la Dumnezeu nu doar pentru a primi ea însăși o șansă la viață mai bună, ci și pentru ca sufletele semenilor săi să fie îmbunate pentru a cunoaște sentimentele de liniște și milostivire.
According to the legend, a long time ago, an extremely beautiful but very poor girl lived in the Bucovina lands. Being also an orphan of both parents, Midsummer suffered extremely much due to the marginalization of others, longing for the love and peace of a family. The only moments of relief were the moments spent in her poor house when she prayed to God not only to give herself a chance at a better life but also to improve the souls of her fellow men to come to know the feelings of peace and mercy.

Având sufletul atât de bun, Sânziana era prietenă bună cu păsările și animalele pădurii, cu ele petrecându-și foarte mult timp. Cu ele frumoasa fată împărțea adesea puțină hrană de care făcea rost, și uneori dormea împreună cu ele în mijlocul naturii. Într-o zi, Sânziana căzu bolnavă și în zadar încercară păsările și animalele să îi aducă hrană și apă – nimic nu funcționa. La un moment dat, în sărăcăcioasa colibă a fetei intră Sfânta Vineri, cu chipul său luminos, și cu blândețe în glas îi spuse fetei:
Having such a good soul, Midsummer was a good friend of the birds and animals of the forest, spending a lot of time with them. The beautiful girl often shared with them the little food she got and sometimes slept with them in the middle of nature. One day Midsummer fell ill and in vain the birds and animals tried to bring her food and water - nothing worked. At one point, Good Friday entered the girl's poor hut, with her bright face, and, in a kind voice, she said to the girl:
– Duioasă și frumoasă ai fost ca o floare – floare vei fi și de acum înainte. Alungată și disprețuită ai fost până acum – căutată și îndrăgită vei fi de acum încolo. Florile tale vor fi coronițe puse la icoane, iar parfumul tău va umple văile și aerul cu mireasma lor, iar sufletele oamenilor cu pace și bunătate. De atunci florile de sânziene sunt căutate pentru puterile lor tămăduitoare, fiind considerate flori magice.
“You were tender and beautiful like a flower - you will be a flower from now on. You have been banished and despised until now - you will be sought after and loved from now on. Your flowers will be crowns placed on icons, and your perfume will fill the valleys and the air with their scent, and the souls of people with peace and kindness.” Ever since then, midsummer flowers have been sought after for their healing powers, being considered magical flowers.
