RO-MD Transnational Educational Project - It is all about legends and a translegendary friendship
Demult, tare demult, trăia un rege foarte bogat, atât de bogat încât putea cumpăra o țară întreagă. Avea comori neprețuite, dar cea mai de preț comoară a lui era fata sa. Fata avea părul galben ca spicele grâului, avea vocea și veselia păsărilor, iar despre frumusețe ce să mai vorbim... Sute de regi și-ar fi dat averile pentru ea, căci nu era altă prințesă ca ea.
A long, long time ago, a very rich king lived, so rich he could buy an entire country. He had priceless treasures, but the most precious of all was his daughter. The girl’s hair was as yellow as the ears of wheat, she had the voice and joy of birds, and her beauty was beyond speech... Hundreds of kings would have given their treasures for her because there was no other princess like her.
Venise și vremea măritișului, iar mii de prinți fuseseră refuzați de biata prințesă, care nu își găsea iubirea. Ea se îndrăgostise de soare. Într-o zi, îi spuse tatălui ei:
-Tată, știu că ești supărat că nu am ales niciun prinț, dar eu iubesc pe altcineva.
-Pe cine?
-Pe cineva care în fiecare dimineață e la fereastra mea, a cărui splendoare o admir în fiecare zi .Este soarele, tată! Cu el vreau să mă mărit!
-Nu te prosti, fata mea. Nimeni nu poate să se îndrăgostească de soare; în plus, o legendă veche spune că cine se va căsători cu soarele, nu are voie să-l privească, că altfel se va transforma în floare.
-Nu-mi pasă, eu mă voi căsători cu soarele!
The time had come for the girl to get married and thousands of princes had been rejected by the poor princess, who could not find her love. She had fallen in love with the sun. One day, she said to her father:
“Dad, I know you're upset I didn't choose any prince, but I love someone else.”
“Whom?”
“Someone who is at my window every morning, whose splendor I admire every day. It's the sun, father! I want to marry him!”
“Don't be silly, my girl. No one can fall in love with the sun; what’s even more, an old legend says that whoever marries the sun is not allowed to look at it, otherwise it will turn into a flower.”
“I don't care, I'll marry the sun!”
Pentru a o feri pe fată de blestem, regele își închise propria fiica într-o celulă din castel. Fata era păzită zi și noapte de câte patru paznici, care nu aveau voie s-o privească, deoarece, sigur se îndrăgosteau de ea.
To protect the girl from the curse, the king locked his own daughter in a cell within the castle. The girl was guarded day and night by four guards, who were not allowed to look at her because they would have surely fallen in love with her.
Într-o zi, fata a început să cânte, iar paznicii s-au uitat la ea și pe loc s-au îndrăgostit de chipul acela fermecător. Îi erau ca niște sclavi, iar prințesa profită. A reușit să scape din castel și a început drumul spre Soare, cu cei patru paznici după ea. O mare parte din drum au mers prin câmpuri acoperite cu fel și fel de flori. Când poposeau, paznicii vânau, iar fata studia florile și aproape că știa orice floare și fiecare miros. Au întâlnit oameni buni, care le-au dat niște indicații, dar și oameni răi, care voiau să-i jefuiască de punguța de galbeni pe care o aveau la ei, dar nu reușeau datorită celor patru ostași viteji.
One day, the girl began to sing, and the guards looked at her and immediately fell in love with that charming face. They were like slaves to her, and the princess took advantage. She managed to escape the castle and began her journey towards the Sun, accompanied by the four guards. For a long part of the way, they went through fields filled with all kinds of flowers. When they stopped, the guards hunted, and the girl studied the flowers and knew almost every flower and every smell. They met good people, who gave them some directions, but also bad people, who wanted to rob them of the bag of gold they had with them, but failed due to the four brave soldiers.
Abia după cinci zile, regele a aflat că prințesa dispăruse și a plecat împreună cu zece mii de viteji în căutarea ei. Prințesa avea un avans bun, dar regele avea cai. Drumul lor a durat zece zile și zece nopți și într-un final au ajuns la palatul de aur al mărețului Soare. În acel moment tocmai se întorcea și Soarele acasă, dar și împăratul ajunsese.
It was not until five days later that the king learned that the princess had disappeared and went in search of her accompanied by ten thousand knights. The princess had a good lead, but the king had horses. Their journey lasted ten days and ten nights and they finally reached the golden palace of the great Sun. At that moment, the emperor had arrived just as the Sun was returning home.

Soarele, cum a privit la fată, s-a îndrăgostit de ea și i-a spus:
-Ești cea mai frumoasă prințesa pe care am văzut-o! Și am văzut multe....
-Si tu m-ai fermecat cu frumusețea ta și aș dori să ne căsătorim!
-Desigur că și eu as vrea, dar știi de blestem?
-Da, dar eu nu cred că se va întâmpla ceva.
-Nu voi permite ca fata mea să se căsătorească cu Soarele, iar apoi să se transforme în floare! interveni împăratul.
-Nu te poți pune în calea iubirii noastre! spuse prințesa.
-Ba uite că pot! se încăpățână regele.
Soarele, fiind de partea prințesei și fiind mult mai puternic decât regele și armata sa îi întemniță pe toți sub imensul său palat.
The sun, as he looked at the girl, fell in love with her and said:
“You are the most beautiful princess I have ever seen! And I have seen some....”
“You charmed me with your beauty, too, and I would like to get married!”
“Of course I would like to, but do you know about the curse?”
“Yes, but I don't believe it will happen.”
“I will not allow my daughter to marry the Sun, and then turn into a flower!” the emperor intervened.
“You can't get in the way of our love!” said the princess.
“But of course I can!” persisted the king.
The sun, agreeing with the princess and being much stronger than the king and his army, imprisoned them all under his enormous palace.
După ceva timp, nu i-a mai păsat de blestem și fata s-a căsătorit cu soarele. Imediat după ziua nunții, fata a dorit să-l vadă pe Soare în toată splendoarea lui. Tocmai atunci a reușit și împăratul să scape pentru a-i fi dat să vadă cum se împlinește blestemul. Fata s-a transformat în floare chiar sub ochii soțului și tatălui ei. Acea floare și acum se întoarce mereu după soțul ei, pentru a-l admira. Ea este Floarea-Soarelui.
After a while, he didn't care about the curse and the girl married the sun. Immediately after the wedding day, the girl wanted to see the Sun in all its splendour. It was then that the emperor managed to escape and see how the curse was being fulfilled. The girl turned into a flower right under the eyes of her husband and father. That flower still turns her face towards her husband to admire him. She is the Sunflower.
