CAYUGA, Ind. - Marshall Glick Gibbs, 95, of Cayuga, passed away at 7:31 a.m. Tuesday (July 8, 2003) at Meadows Manor East in Terre Haute.

Born July 1, 1908, in Indianola, Ill the son of the late Fred and Lena Glick Gibbs. He married Annabelle Fable Aug. 11, 1935 in Cayuga. Annabelle passed away June 7, 2002, after 66 years of marriage.

Survivors include: a son, Anthony A. Gibbs and his wife Linda of Terre Haute; a granddaughter, Michele G. Smith and her husband Rob of Terre Haute, and two great-granddaughters, Katie Gaylin Gibbs Smith and Ellen Kay Gibbs Smith, both of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Marion and Fred Gibbs Jr. and two sisters, Dorothy Louise Maxwell and Imogene Gibbs.

Marshall was a 1926 graduate of Indianola High School, a graduate with a B.A. from the University of Illinois in 1932 and Indiana State University, M.S. in 1964. He was a teacher and guidance counselor in the Cayuga Schools (later North Vermillion) and a businessman in Cayuga in partnership with his father-in-law, Fred A. Fable. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in Europe and retired with the rank of Major.

He was a 50-year member of the Perrysville Masonic Lodge 344 F&AM, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, Terre Haute York Rite, Council #8, 1960-61 served as Past Worthy Grand Patron of the Indiana Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and held various national and international appointments in the Eastern Star.

He was a member of the Cayuga Presbyterian Church and served as an Elder for many years. He was a charter member of the Cayuga Lions Club and a life member of the American Legion Rainbow Post #263 of Cayuga. He was also a member of various Teacher Associations.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 11 at the Cayuga Presbyterian Church; Officiating: Rev. Grover Williams; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport with military rites by the Cayuga American Legion Post; Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Thursday, July 10 at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home, with Masonic Memorial Rites and OES Memorial Rites to follow visitation; Memorials can be made in Marshall's memory to the Cayuga Presbyterian Church and/or the Vermillion County Community Foundation.
