James Dale Ellis, Sr.

Newport, Ind. - James Dale Ellis, Sr., 66, of Newport, passed away at 3:33 a.m. EDT Monday, July 11, 2016 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.

He was born December 2, 1949 in Danville, Illinois the son of the late Clarence Ward and Ellen Jane (Henderson) Ellis.

He first married Connie Jo Atterbury. She preceded him in death. He later married Donna "Susie" Bush on August 25, 2002 at the Cayuga Park in Cayuga, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include his children, Robin (Wally) Kerst of Williamsport, Indiana; Jimmy (Angie) Ellis of Rockville, Indiana; Buddy (Wendi) High of Newport, Indiana; Amy (Mark) Heidbrider and Kenna (George) Hinote by of Cayuga, Indiana; 19 grandchildren, Lacey; Kasey; Wally J.; Kyle; Trent; Abby; Jennifer; Samantha; Kylie; Keri; George; Nathan; Justin; Kenzie; Gage; Gatlin; Gunner; Kelsey and MaKaeya; 13 great grandchildren; 5 sisters, Margaret Freeman of Champaign, Illinois; Mary Holycross of Oklahoma; Juletta Stonebraker of Cayuga, Indiana; Iva (Bob) Stevens and Vera Norman both of Tangier, Indiana, and Carolyn (Ron) DeMoss of Attica, Indiana; 4 brothers, Pat Ellis of Westville, Illinois; Fred "Chub" (Joy) Ellis of West Lebanon; Harold "Doyne" (Velsa) Ellis of Cayuga, Indiana and John "Bub" (Karen) Ellis of Newport, Indiana; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

James was preceded in death by seven sisters and brothers.

James retired from the General Motors Tilton Central Foundry in 1990. He also formerly worked at Powell's Lumber in Cayuga and helped his Dad deliver ice in the surrounding area. James attended the Cayuga Community Gospel Lighthouse Church. He enjoyed working on cars, going to Boswell, Indiana to watch stock car racing, watching westerns and spending time with his dogs.
