Dana, Ind. - Russell D. Hollingsworth, 72, of rural Dana passed away at 9:50 p.m. EST Sunday, November 21, 2021 at his residence.

He was born December 25, 1948 in Clinton, Indiana the son of the late Maynard R. and Ada Jane (Naylor) Hollingsworth.

Russell married Mary E. Griffeth on November 13, 1971 in Pittsfield, Illinois. She survives.

Other survivors include his children: Jerald Hollingsworth of Dallas, Texas; Carter (Winnie) Hollingsworth of Lakeville, Minnesota and Heather (Jeremy) Tryon of Cayuga, Indiana; five grandchildren: Charity, Grayson, Jerald, Jr., Cody and Breanna; two sisters: Paula Roberts of McCordsville, Indiana and Teresa (Phil) Adams of Mecca, Indiana, and special uncle: Paul Hollingsworth of Newport, Indiana.

Russell was preceded in death by his sister: Linda Lou.

Russell retired in 2004 from Cinergy Power Station in Cayuga. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Vietnam War. Russell was a 1966 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He was a Lifetime member in both the Newport American Legion Post 184 and the Buck Knife Collectors Club. He was a former member of the I.B.E.W. 1393. Russell enjoyed watching college basketball and deer hunting. He accomplished riding his Harley in all lower 48 states. Russell had a uncanny knack for remembering all the roads he traveled on in all 50 states. He was very appreciated of the veterans that served our country. Russell had a wonderful sense of humor. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana; Burial with Honors: Thomas Cemetery, Newport, Indiana; Visitation: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. EST Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Newport American Legion Post 184 or to the American Cancer Society.
