Gebbink Dunham, Marvel Marie

Covington, Ind. - Marvel Marie (Gebbink) Dunham, 60, of Covington, passed away at 1:50 a.m. EDT Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at I.U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was born October 26, 1957 in Danville, Illinois the daughter of the late Leland Dale and Ima Lee (Hines) Gebbink.

Marvel married Dean A. Dunham on July 17, 1976 at the Perrysville United Methodist Church in Perrysville, Indiana. He survives.

Other survivors include her sons: Thad (Jillian) Dunham of Houston, Texas and Kyle (fiancée Emily) Dunham of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandson, Clayton Alan Dunham of Houston, Texas; two sisters: Carol Lee (Dennis) Smith of Perrysville, Indiana and Diana (Pat) Crowder of Covington, Indiana; brother: Ronald Dale Gebbink of Danville, Illinois, and several nieces and nephews.

Marvel was preceded in death by her brother, Donnie Gebbink; sister-in-law, Marilyn Gebbink and nephew, Kirk A. Gentrup.

Marvel started teaching at Highland Elementary in 1979 until the consolidation of what is now North Vermillion Elementary School Corporation in 1993. She retired from N.V.E.S.C. in 2012. Marvel was a member of the First Church of Christ in Covington, Indiana. She was a 1975 graduate of North Vermillion High School, 1979 graduate of Indiana State University and received her Master's degree in 1982 also from Indiana State University. Marvel enjoyed reading, traveling with her good friend, Cheryl Huey, riding with her husband on their motorcycle, going to movies and attending her extended families sporting events. Marvel especially enjoyed going to Houston, Texas to spend time with her grandson, Clayton and cherished the time with her family.

Marvel was a recipient of a double lung transplant. Her family would like to send a very special "Thank You" to the family of Leza Smyth (Donor) for the wonderful gift they gave our family and added time we were able to spend with Marvel. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

Funeral service: 10 a.m. EDT Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the First Church of Christ, 615 North 5th Street, Covington, Indiana 47932; Officiating: Mike Harshman; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery north of Perrysville, Indiana; Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. EDT Friday, May 18, 2018 at the First Church of Christ and one hour prior to services on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
