DANIEL Joseph PIKE

BRAZIL, Ind. - Daniel J. Pike, 55, of Brazil and formerly of Cayuga and Newport, passed away at 4:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at his residence in Brazil.

He was born July 13, 1950, in Danville, Ill., the son of Robert and Patricia Sollars Pike. He married Cindy K. Kopacz on July 15, 1977, along the banks of the Wabash in Vermillion County, Ind. She survives. Other survivors include his children: Stephanie (Brad) Joy of West Terre Haute, Danny (Jennifer) Pike of Graysville, Becky (Eric) Glines of Evansville and Andy Pike of Brazil; his father, Robert Pike; six grandchildren, Sydney, Alyssa and Mallory Pike and Branch and Parker Joy and Elijah Glines; one brother, David Pike of Georgia and one sister, Janet Weir of Cayuga; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Dan retired from General Motors in February of 1999.

He was a Vietnam War veteran receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.

He attended the Annunciation Church in Brazil, Indiana. He was a member of the Brazil American Legion Post 2 and the National HOG Association. Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushrooming golfing, camping and riding his Harley.

Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. EST Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga; Officiating: Father Steven Jerrel; Burial: Thomas Cemetery in Newport with military graveside rites by the Newport American Legion Post 184; Visitation from 4-8 p.m. EST Thursday, Dec. 22 and one hour prior to services Friday at the funeral home. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
