Rileysburg, Ind. - Donald Gene "Donnie" Maxfield, 66, of Rileysburg, passed away at 5:30 a.m. EST Saturday, January 18, 2014 at The Waters of Covington in Covington, Indiana.

He was born December 16, 1947 in Clinton, Indiana the son of Kenneth G. and Mary E. Phipps Maxfield.

He married Helen Cook (Dunham). With this marriage they had two daughters, Tammy(Billy)Fortner Hurst of Danville, Illinois and Shelly(Donnie)Kunkle of Cayuga, Indiana.

He later married Phyllis Dixon, who preceded him in death. He then married Rachel Howard on June 21, 2001 in Newport, Indiana. She survives.

Other survivors include two step children, Christopher Hughes of Rilyesburg, Indiana and Jackie Hughes of Gessie, Indiana; his mother, Mary E. Maxfield of Covington, Indiana; four grandchildren, Brandie(T.J.)Fortner Lowery of Newport, Indiana; Karisa(Ethan)Kunkle, Bree Fortner and Bailea Fortner all of Cayuga, Indiana; step granddaughter, Hadley Defebaugh of Gessie, Indiana; two great grandchildren, Layton and Rylen Lowery of Newport, Indiana; two brothers, Rick(Maryl)Maxfield of Danville, Illinois and Rodney(Tena)Maxfield of Covington, Indiana, and his mother in law, Wanda Seripinas of Westville, Illinois.

Donald was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth G. Maxfield, and one brother, Charles Roy Maxfield.

Donald retired in 2003 from CSX railroad. He was a United States Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Donnie enjoyed fishing, mushrooming and woodworking.

There will be no services. Per Donald's request cremation has been accorded. Contributions may be made to Heartland Home Care and Hospice Services, Terre Haute, Indiana. DeVerter Funeral Home in Cayuga, Indiana is assisting the family.

Those who knew him always referred to him as Donnie or Mad Max.

NOTE: He is noted as being interred at Newport Cemetery, Newport, Vermillion County, Indiana. He was cremated and the location of his ashes is unknown. He is listed in this cemetery because he's on the stone with his second wife Phyllis.
