RILEYSBURG, Ind. — Charles William “Bill” Crist, 82, died at 7:13 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville, Ill.

He was born May 12, 1927, at Coalmont, the son of the late James Riley and Moyne Edith Neal Crist.

He was a graduate of Coalmont High School and entered the Navy in World War II. He then graduated from Indiana State University with a master’s degree. He operated Prather Implement Company for 13 years, and then taught at North Vermillion High School for 22 years, retiring in 1987. He was an IHSAA football official for many years.

His memberships include Rileysburg Church, Unity Lodge No. 344 F & AM, Perrysville Chapter No. 302 OES, Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Parke-Vermillion Retired Teachers Association, Walter Hoyt Post No. 350 American Legion, and Theta Chi. He had resided in Rileysburg since 1952 and formerly lived at Mishawaka, Jasonville and Coalmont.

Bill married Irma Lee Prather on Dec. 19, 1948, in Rileysburg and she survives. Also surviving are a son, James D. Crist of Morocco; two daughters, Joyce M. (Ken) Olsen of Attica and Lynn K. Crist of Indianapolis; two grandsons, Kevin J. (Adrianne) Olsen of West Lafayette and Keith A. (Suzanne) Olsen of Terre Haute; a great-granddaughter, Avery D. Olsen; and a sister-in-law, Pearl L. (Jene) Hicks of Covington.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at Shelby Funeral Home, Covington, with Pastor Randall Chandler officiating. Burial will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation at Shelby Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Monday with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice.
