Robert William Snavely

Robert William Snavely, 93, of Covington, died at 1:40 p.m. EDT Tuesday, April 8, 2008, in The Waters of Covington. He was born Sept. 27, 1914, at Milledgeville, Ill., the son of Walter Jacob and Sigrid (Youngman) Snavely.

He graduated from Coleta Illinois High School and Moler Barber School in Chicago. He married Doriene Belle Gouty on April 10, 1935, in Chicago. She preceded him in death Jan. 14, 2004. Also, his parents and two brothers preceded him in death. Surviving are a son, John William Snavely of Covington; and a daughter Sigrid (Dan) Uhey of Perrysville; four grandchildren, Charlene (Ryan) Miller, Stephanie (Charles) Mercer, Jeff Uhey and Suzanne (Scott) Millikan; and five great-grandchildren, Nolan, Nathan and Wyatt Mercer, and Sarah and Hannah Millikan.

He was a lifetime farmer and breeder of Angus cattle. He belonged to the American Angus Association. He was one of the original members of the North Vermillion School Corporation Board of Trustees. He attended Rileysburg Community Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed singing, especially the great old hymns of faith. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. EDT Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Randall Chandler officiating. Internment will follow in Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until service time. Memorials may be given to Perrysville Fire Department or Mac Van Transportation Service with envelopes available at the funeral home.
