Indiana man found dead in Arizona

STAFF REPORT

CAYUGA, Ind. — A North Vermillion High School graduate was found dead in his car in southern Arizona early Monday. Dead is Hunter Ray Hawn, 23, who moved from Cayuga about six months ago to live with his mother. His father, Philip Hawn, lives in Cayuga. The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was called about 12:15 a.m. Monday to a suspicious vehicle that went into a fence in Ajo, about 100 miles west of Tucson and 40 miles north of the Mexico border. Deputies found Hawn inside the vehicle with trauma injuries. Detectives determined that Hawn and Luis Ernesto Veleta, 19, got into a fight. Afterward, Hawn got into the car but was unable to drive himself to seek medical attention. Veleta is being held in the Pima County Jail. The cause of death and motive were not released. Hawn was a 2004 graduate of North Vermillion, according to former principal Oren “Doc” Sutherlin. “He was a good kid in high school,” Sutherlin said. “He never caused any trouble.”
