Lynne R. Wickens

Sept. 11, 1951 - October 31, 1970

Lynne R. Wickens, 19, of Dana Route 2, was killed in a one-car accident at 5 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 31, 1970) a mile and a half south of Cayuga on a Vermillion County Road.

State Police reported that Wickens was en route south on the county blacktop road. He went off on the left side of the road, hit a culvert and overturned landing on the car top in the creek bed.

Vermillion County Coroner Nick Karanovich attributed death to drowning.

Accident was discovered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday by Charles West and Bill Shelato, both of Cayuga.

Investigating the accident were Vermillion County Sheriff Frank Turchi, Deputy Sheriff Glen Conrad, State Troopers Jerry Stateler and Karanovich.

Wickens was born Sept. 11, 1951, at Clinton, the son of Frank A and Norma Lee Robertson Wickens.

A 1969 graduate of North Vermillion High, he was employed at General Electric at Danville, Ill.

Survivors include his parents of Dana Route 2; 2 brothers, Ronald Gene, stationed with the Army in Vietnam, and Larry Dene of Terre Haute; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Thelma Wickens of Dana Route 2; and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Thelma Robertson of Danville, Ill.

Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Tuesday at the Watson Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Lucille Esbenshade officiating. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery at Dana.
