COVINGTON, Ind. - Rodney Jay Nixon, 34, of 14104 North 300 East Road, Covington, died at 1:30 p.m. EST Saturday (March 2, 2002) at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born Nov. 29, 1967, in Danville, Ill., the son of Walter C. (Marilyn) Nixon and Janet Marilyn Carey.

Rodney was a life resident of the Tree Springs area and a 1986 graduate of North Vermillion High School. He was an avid golfer and a very staunch supporter of Coach Bob Knight. Rodney was a farmer, who loved working for his employer Wayne Rice. He touched the lives of all children in his presence, especially his daughter.

Survivors include: his father, Walter C. (Marilyn) Nixon of Fountain County; his mother, Janet Marilyn Sloan of Covington; his daughter, Alyssa R. Nixon of Covington; five sisters, Robin Abernathy of Covington; Rose (Rick) Dubois of Phoenix, Ariz., Tammy Woolwine of Covington, Becky Nixon of Newport and Roxanne Nixon of Covington; three brothers, Russ Nixon, Robby Woolwine and Royce Nixon, all of Covington; a special friend, Ashley Randles; and several nieces and nephews, and aunts and uncles.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Thursday, March 7 at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington; Officiating: Dr. Glenn Ray Sr.; Visitation: 4-8 p.m. EST Wednesday, March 6 at the funeral home; Burial: Lower Mound Cemetery in Covington; The family has requested that memorials be made to the Alyssa R. Nixon Scholarship Fund at the Fountain Trust Company, One Fountain Square, Covington, IN 47932. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
