Aunty Dot seemed worse when we spoke to her today. She's still trying to make light of it, but I think she's worried all the same. She admitted that her temperature's up and her cough was definitely troubling her. She was more interested in telling us about the nurse at Aintree University Hospitals Trust (what used to be called Fazakerley Hospital in my day), who has died of COVID-19. I'm beginning to lose count of how man healthcare staff that makes nationwide now.
I know that I ought to feel sorry for Boris, but I can't help thinking that the country may be better run with him in hospital. Dominic Raab got a real grilling from journalists at today's public briefing over how it can be that Boris is ill enough to justify taking up a hospital bed, but still well enough to be running the government.
Peter has volunteered to go back into policing to help out, but he hasn't had a reply yet. I'm afraid that it could be conditional on him living away from us, with Jonah being in the high risk category and policing being necessarily a hands-on job. Gavin tells us that they are very stretched now, with lots of officers off sick or self-isolating. And he's worried that the promised guidance for hostel and day centre providers for homeless people still hasn't come out. He sounded rather depressed all round when Peter rang him this afternoon, which I think is one thing that galvanised Peter into wanting to "do his bit". (Which reminds me of the Queen's broadcast to the nation, yesterday. We didn't watch it, but apparently it had all sorts of references to the situation being similar to during The War, and ended with her saying that We'll Meet Again!)
