We met Gabriel Sibanda and his parents at Mass again this morning. He was playing the organ and his mother, Precious, sang “The Angel Gabriel from heaven came”. Afterwards, they told us that they’d met Yakubu Danjuma. Andy brought him to see the place where his son was killed and they all met up in the chapel at Holy Cross. They wanted to thank him for the way that Jibrilu helped Gabriel to get away from his tormentors and he wanted to thank Gabriel for giving the evidence that led to his son’s killers being caught and charged.
Precious told us that Yakubu was clearly very pleased to have found his long-lost son and very proud of Andy’s achievements in the Police. I don’t know how that’s going to play out! It’s going to be tricky for Andy trying to navigate between his new father’s desire to get t know him and his mother’s unwillingness to acknowledge Yakubu’s right to call himself Andy’s father. I foresee trouble ahead.
