I paid a call on Mrs M. Fr, O’Leary was there, but not Mr. M, who was out making his own search for K. I explained that we hadn’t given up on looking, but that there wasn’t a lot we could do unless someone came up with some new leads. She was very understanding, but I felt that I’d let her down.
Fr O’Leary came out with us. He was keen to tell me that K. was very trusting and always believed the best of people. His theory is that someone must have come along and persuaded him to go with them. It seems likely, but most murders are committed by someone known to the victim, so I don’t agree with him that an attack by an unknown stranger is the most likely explanation.
