I wish Johns was back from that training course he’s been sent on! I could do with someone with a bit more idea how to talk to people than young Broadbent displayed this afternoon.
The High Wycombe sighting proved to be a false alarm. I wish now I hadn’t mentioned it to Mr and Mrs M, but I was afraid that it would get back to them somehow and they’d think I was concealing things from them. In the normal run of things, I’d have sent Johns to break the news and reassure them that we were still working hard to find Kevin. As it was, I made the big mistake of giving the job to DC Broadbent, who appears to have done it in an unimaginably clumsy way. I had a lot of work to do afterwards, calming them down and assuring them that we still had every hope of finding him alive.
