Andy’s promotion came through today. He’s now officially a Detective Inspector and Jonah’s managed to swing it that he’s still in his team. He’ll deputise for Jonah on Jonah’s on-working days and annual leave (that’s a joke! When did Jonah every willingly take annual leave?!)

Anyway, it’s great news for Andy, who has deserved promotion for years, but kept putting off taking the exams. Then, once he’d passed it looked as if there might not be an inspector’s job for him in Oxford CID. He didn’t want to go back in uniform or to move away from his Mum. So it’s great that he can stay on here after all. Monica’s green with envy, but trying not to show it. She passed the exam at the same time as Andy and then got fed up with waiting for a DI job to come up, so she went for an inspector’s job managing a team of uniformed officers based in Abingdon. Jonah reckons she’s more suited to that sort of role than detection, but I have a sneaky suspicion that, despite his protestations, he has a subconscious bias against her because she’s ambitious and he thinks love of the job should come before career progression. Of course, he never had to choose between the two – AND he had a surgeon for a wife, so he could have afforded to wait for the perfect job to come along.
