A busy day with the aftermath of the terrorist siege to sort out. Nothing very exciting, so the best part of the day was going over to Bernie’s for dinner. She’d baked some strange pasties, which she called “Lancashire Foots” and an apple crumble for afters. Then we sat together on the settee and she told me about a new university committee that she’d been put on – something to do with getting more working-class kids to apply to Oxford. I imagine she was chosen to represent her college because of her own working-class credentials – although I doubt if the other members of the committee are really hoping to attract more docker’s daughters from Liverpool!
