After mass this morning, Father Nat showed us the bench that they’ve put outside the church I memory of Aunty Dot. It’s in what they’re calling their “Peace Garden”. It’s designed to be a “sensory garden” with things to touch and smell and listen to as well as flowers to look at. There’s also a trellis with knitted flowers attached to it – one for every person in Liverpool who’s died of COVID. Sadly, it’s completely covered and they’ve had to add a second panel to it. The plaque on Aunty Dot’s bench say, “In thankfulness for the life of Dorothy Fazakerley (“Dot”) a valiant servant of God and of her neighbours.”. I like the description “valiant”. It makes her sound heroic, which she was – or is, depending on your view of the Church Triumphant. I took a photograph to show Peter and Jonah. I think Jonah will approve of “valiant” too. He admired Aunty Dot a lot – although he pretended to think that her Catholicism was rot!
