Day 5: Wednesday

Lambananas

We saw our first Lambanana when we were walking along Hope Street from the Catholic Cathedral to the Anglican one. Dominic told us that there had been lots of them put up all over the City when Liverpool was European Capital of Culture in 2008. He showed me some of the others later, when we went off on our own while Mam and Peter were busy with other things.

Here are pictures of the ones we found. Dom reckons there are lots more, but he can’t remember where they all are. If we come again, I’m going to hunt them all down! Afterwards, I Googled Lambanana and I found out that the original one was yellow – like a banana – and it’s supposed to symbolise Liverpool’s trading heritage: wool being exported and bananas coming in from the West Indies.
