The Maid of Saxony

This is the narrow boat that our friend, Martin riess owns on the Oxford Canal. He calls her the "Maid of Saxony" because that's where he comes from - originally that is. He was born in Wittenberg, but he and his mum came to England when he was eight, to get away from the communist government in East Germany. It was all very exciting, by all accounts, but he doesn't like to talk about it much.

We go out in The Maid most Saturdays in the summer. In the winter I'm rather busy with football practice so there isn't usually time, but Martin and his mum still come round to our house for tea most weeks.

You can read about Martin and the Maid of Saxony in TWO LITTLE DICKIE BIRDS, which is a book about the murder that happened on board and how my stepdad solved it.
