It’s Eddie and Crystal’s wedding anniversary today. They’ve been married for thirteen years. It’s nearly five years now since they moved to Oxford from Jamaica – getting on for half of their married life now, and the only place that Ricky and Abigail have known. The past 18 months have been hard for Crystal, because of not being able to visit her family. Not that they’d have done so anyway, in all likelihood because of saving up for a house, but I know she worried that if anything happened to her parents, she wouldn’t be able to be there for them. On the other hand, lockdown did get us all talking much more to family members across the globe. I’m sure that I would never have “met” Crystal’s Mum and Dad if we hadn’t organised Zoom meetings with them last Christmas. Now, Peter seems to chat with them almost every week – more often sometimes, if he’s got the grandchildren round and needs something to distract them.
