We've been asked to explain the different ranks in the Police Service, to help people to understand the roles that Peter, Jonah and the others have had during their careers. Here's a handy summary. Both Peter and Jonah started out as humble (or not so very humble in Jonah's case!) Police Constables, but moved into the Crime Investigation Unit after only a short time. Becoming a Detective Constable wasn't technically a promotion, since uniformed and non-uniformed officers ofthe same rank are considered equal.
