So caught up in my own stuff, I forgot to mention Peter Johns’ news. His wife gave birth to their second yesterday afternoon – a boy. I’m sure someone told me its weight but I didn’t take it in. Mother and baby doing well apparently – which is all that matters. Johns is off for the rest of the week looking after the little girl.
I could've done with Johns today to help investigate a suspicious death that's cropped up. It occurred almost on the doorstep of the police station in St Aldates. One of the anti-nuclear protestors collapsed in the crush while they were marching up there towards a rally at Carfax. The ambul;ance rushed him off to the Radcliffe but he was dead on arrival. DC Porter found an empty syringe in his pocket, so the chances are it was drug-related, but we'll have to wait for the PM for confirmation on that. We were kept busy taking down names and addresses of witnesses and trying to contact his next-of-kin. It was so late by the time I got home that I decided to put off ringing Mum again until tomorrow.
