Today's session in court started off with Vanessa's cross-examination. Christabel did her best to fend off the aggressive interrrogation, but I'm afraid that the inconsistencies in her testimony, which the prosecuting barrister showed up, won;t have increased her credibility with the jury. Eventually she was allowed to stand down and Chrsitabel called her next witness, who gave very convincing testimony of Christopher's abusive behaviour, but didn't do much to dispel the idea that this gave Vanessa a motive for killing him. After that, we saw the temporary secretary, who had worked with Christopher in the days leading up to his murder. She appeared to be enjoying herself immensely - obviously giving evidence in court was quite an adventure for her.
I think we've probably got the jury on our side, insofar as they synmpathise with Vanessa's plight, but we're goping to have to do a whole lot better if we're gong to convince them that Vanessa really didn't stab her husband.
