The crown completed its case today, with a rousing speech from the prosecuting counsel. I'm afraid the jury looked as if they were convinced by it - although I rather fancy that some of them, at least, feel that Christopher deserved what he got and sympathise with Vanessa. I won't be surprised if they go for manslaughter in the end, but if I'm honest, I can't see much sign that they're going to believe that it wasn't Vanessa who wielded the murder weapon!
Vanessa began giving her side of the story in the afternoon. She was clearly very nervous, but Christabel managed to help her through it. I'm sure her demeanour - rabbit-in-the-headlights terror - will have helped her to gain sympathy, but that's not the same as convincing the jury that she's innocent. I don't know how she's going to cope with being cross-examined tomorrow.
