So Jonah is now 60 and he will be drawing his police pension as of Wednesday. Nathan and Georgia came over for tea, which gave us an excuse to make a proper birthday cake with 60 candles on it, which he insisted on allowing little Rachel to blow out (with a bit of help from Lucy in the background). We hadn't seen Rachel for a few months. I was surprised that she doesn't seem to be as advanced in her development as Abigail, who is three months younger. Of course kids vary a lot and Abigail has the advantage of a big brother to copy and compete with, so I don't suppose there's anything to worry about.
In typical British meteorological fashion, the drought and heatwave ended, putting paid to or plans for a picnic in the garden, but luckily the kitchen is plenty big enough for a party. I think everyone had a good time and - even Jonah, who is still not at all pleased at hte prospect of retirement!
