Aunty Dot's funeral went ahead today. The funeral director took a video of the service in the crematorium chapel and emailed it to the family. We all watched it together this evening. Father Nat (parish priest at the church in Toxteth where Aunty Dot used to go before she moved into the Care Home and that Ruth and Joey still attend) gave a short talk and said the usual prayers, but there wasn't a mass. He's promised to say a requiem mass for her in church tomorrow. He's been saying mass every day and live streaming it on Youtube. Most of the masses include prayers for the souls of recently deceased parishioners at the moment. He puts photographs of them on the altar, so that people can see them when they watch the livestream or the subsequent saved video. Jonah used to be very scathing of the RC practice of saying mass alone, but I think even he is coming round to the idea now that normal church services are impossible.
