We'd had a hunch something like this was bound to come, but it was still a blow to hear the announcement that new jury trials won't start until the COVID-19 crisis is over. Apparently there have been problems with jurors self-isolating (and so not being able to attend court) or, conversely, attending when they are unwell and putting other jurors and court officials at risk. Trials in magistrates courts are still going ahead using videoconferencing in some cases. Let's hope they get something similar sorted out for Crown Court prosecutions soon. We were hoping that it wouldn't be many more months before Kenny's killers came to trial, but this will create a backlog that could put it off for ages, leaving poor Gavin in limbo, not knowing when it will all be over.
